the cold press of morning
seeped up the wall
in mockery of days gone by
no summer dawning
just leaves left to fall
and all was grey to the eye
I sat with a yearning
remembering joy
of running and rocking about
those days, I was learning
lead hope to destroy
all that is darkness without
I was there thinking
and feeling and knowing
those days would be here again
my heart was still sinking
my sorrow yet growing
for it was too long until then
When I was a child, I'd stare up at the sky,
And wonder at the creatures I'd see flying by.
They were different colours, they were many sizes,
How they flew and where they flew were things of great surprises.
I wanted to be able to join them way up there.
And glide around and swoosh around as another child would stare.
When I was a child, I would play with blocks.
I'd make wonders of the world before they'd go in their box.
The trifle tower, the statue of liverty and a little Ben.
I had a lot left yet to learn, well, I was only ten.

I am still teaching, however I have changed location. I now live in Central Australia and I'm teaching in a remote Indigenous Australian town. It's certainly different to other things I have experienced. Namely; everything else I have ever experienced. Meanwhile, nothing else about me has changed - still living vicariously through fiction, still a great big geek, still thoroughly unashamed about both.
